A 15 metre high Cellphone Tower – taller than the Novotel Hotel - is proposed on Ngamotu Road. Residents need your help to oppose the Resource Consent.

A 15 metre high Cellphone Tower – taller than the Novotel Hotel - is proposed on Ngamotu Road. Residents need your help to oppose the Resource Consent.

An extremely large Cellphone Tower is proposed to be built on the berm on Ngamotu Road, which will cause visual and noise pollution for many residents.

  • This proposed tower is 15 metres high – the height of a 4 to 5 story building. This tower will be higher than the 3 story buildings of either the Waterfront Hotel or the Novotel Hotel.
  • This is not the usual Cellphone Towers we see on residential streets.
  • Who may be in the next neighbourhood to have this on their fence line and in their view ?

Trying to put the 15 metre height into context, we tried to identify a building in New Plymouth which is 15 metres high. We can’t find one, as there are height restrictions for building to only 14 metres in New Plymouth’s CBD.

But a tower taller than commercial building restrictions in the CBD is proposed outside a residential home ? Does that seem right ?

The tower will also have 3 cabinets housing equipment and wiring - which are each 1.8 metres high, 3 meters long and 1 meter wide. This is a very large unit.

  • We are asking people if they can please get behind the residents in this area to get this cellphone tower moved to a non-residential location in the same area.
  • Please share this story with others.

If you know people who live on Ngamotu Road you may want to let them know about this story, they may also be affected by what is planned. This structure will also be widely in the view shaft of all properties on Ngamotu Road who look out to sea.

This enormous structure is proposed to sit on the fence line outside residential properties. The towers we usually see do not require a resource consent, this one does, because of it’s size.

These are the first of these types of Towers in New Plymouth. There are likely to be more planned in the future.

  • A resource consent is required for this tower to go ahead, and this neighbourhood needs as many people as possible to let the Council, and Spark, know the people of New Plymouth do not want these oversized towers on berms outside residential homes.

We have attached a list of other possible locations put together by the residents. These are located on industrial sites, or reserves, or the hill where Spark already has telecommunications equipment and towers.

Please support these residents through this consent process, to help get the location of this Cellphone Tower moved, by

  • Texting or phoning Judith Herdson on 0274 198 325.
  • Or email us and we will forward your e-mail on – at ratepayersnp@gmail.com

There is talk of a possible public meeting about this, we will keep you posted about that.

***We have attached the objection document for the consent and a location map of where this tower is proposed to be placed.
