The Communities input for the 2027 Long Term Plan (LTP) is open for your feedback.
- There are tick boxes where you can say I do not want this activity
- There are free flow boxes where you can type what you actually want to say about activities.
- “For our supporters who DO NOT want rates increases and gold plated projects – this document is your chance to send that message LOUD and CLEAR to the NPDC”. One of the managers in our quarterly meetings at the NPDC made this comment to us.
- If you want the NPDC team to do things differently in this LTP you have to make sure you participate in this survey – or the council will deliver what they usually do.
- Please make sure you have your say.
Please share this with everyone you know who is concerned about rates increases and debt in New Plymouth.
One of the things that was really important for the Alliance to change when the new team of elected officials were voted in last year was to improve how consultations are done at the NPDC.
We wanted people to be able to say in a consultation – No I Do Not Want this activity.
We wanted people to be able to write in their own words with each section, and be able to question what is being suggested in an LTP, or other consultations.
In previous years there was quite a strong feeling in the community consultations were leading people in a direction wanted by the Council rather than by the community.
- We are really thrilled to see the first round of the Long Term Plan consultation has the ability to say I do not want this option, and, there are free flow text boxes to add what you actually want to say.
This is YOUR TURN to send the message LOUD and CLEAR to the NPDC that you do not want gold plated projects and endless new costs and projects being added to LTP’s.
- You have to fill in this survey if you want the NPDC to listen to your views about keeping your rates down and not creating new expensive nice to have projects. If you don’t take the time to fill this survey in - then you will not influence how this city is being run – it’s really that simple.
In a press release Mayor Max spoke about the Long Term Plan and how you can get involved:
New Plymouth District’s Mayor Max Brough says community feedback will help shape the choices ahead.
“We’ve put the building blocks in place with our most recent Annual Plan which focussed on efficiency and innovation to reduce impacts on ratepayers while continuing to prioritise essential services.
“Now is when we have a real opportunity to put a stake in the ground and come up with a plan that will help build towards our vision to make this district resilient today, thriving tomorrow.
Before we put a draft plan together, we want to know what’s most important to our community — what should we protect, what needs to improve, and where we should focus for the future.”
And Mayor Max acknowledges there will be tough decisions that have to be made.
“Investing more in services and improvements comes at a price, while keeping costs down may mean changing services or altering workloads, so we want to know what trade-offs locals are willing to accept and where do you want us to prioritise.
“A very clear message was received through the cost-of-living election last year and it is important to understand your thoughts - I encourage everyone to take time to take the online survey or come along and talk with us at one of the drop-in sessions throughout the district.”
