If you have had a large rates increase we encourage you to have your rates assessed.

If you have had a large rates increase, and you also had an increase in the value of your property last year, we encourage you to contact the NPDC to get your rates assessed and to request a re-evaluation of your property. This service is offered to people straight after new rates amounts have been set.

Property values have gone down in 2026 so people need to make sure they are paying rates based on a realistic value.

Send an e-mail to enquiries@npdc.govt.nz  and ask for a rates and property value assessment.

Send a copy of the e-mail to ratepayersnp@gmail.com so we can keep a track of how many people are having issues.

If you have over 15% and 20% increases but your property value hasn’t gone up, send us an e-mail to let us know, if you haven’t already.

If people in the same street/area are finding big differences in rates invoices with a few properties being higher than those around them, or one household has something quite different to others, please let us know.

We are hearing examples of people living on the same block with very similar size sections and house values, yet 2 people have around 2-3% increases and one house has 8.8%.

We are looking to collate information of the anomalies that we are hearing about with these large rates increases and will approach the NPDC to get an explanation of how the rating system is managing to come up with such unusual patterns and increases.
