Mayor Max has stated he is looking for support from the Community to reduce the operating costs of the Len Lye Centre from $120k a week (yes you read that right) to $50k a week. He needs the community to get behind him and show their support, so the 2027 Long Term Plan significantly reduces the Len Lye operating costs.
If $70k a week is trimmed off the operating budget that is a $3.6M reduction in operating costs over a year. This is relief badly needed by ratepayers (and renters) who have just been hit with 15% to 42% rates increases.
Mayor Max needs community support when consultation takes place for the 2027 Long Term Plan.
Perhaps the NPDC needs to explore what is happening with other art galleries across the country, both private and Council owned, to see how these places can be operated successfully at much lower costs.
