Climate Change "Adaptation Plans" will affect you if you live in Onaero or Urenui.

Adaptation plans in NZ have a habit of moving people away from their homes as the Councils (or insurance companies) decide it is no longer safe to live there because of Climate Change. We have a previous story about this on our website.

The NPDC website states “We’re working with the Urenui and Onaero communities to plan how we respond to the impacts of climate change and to explore the opportunities to shape our future” – at this link:

  • If you live in these areas had you been aware of any of these workshops and plans ?

Project timeline

  • July–September 2026
Community wānanga (a series of workshops)
  • Late 2026
Development of draft adaptation options and pathways
  • Summer 2026/2027
Community engagement on the draft plans
  • 2027
Final Local Adaptation Plans presented to Council for endorsement

You may want to have a read of what’s on the link above for Onaero and Urenui, and whether you have specific Climate Change feedback you want to give the NPDC based on where you live.

The open online consultation link is here until 15th September:
