A Herald Story about a newly formed industry group and concerns they have with the Ban on Oil and Gas in New Zealand.

Around 5 years ago decisions were made by the then Labour Led Government Coalition to ban offshore oil exploration and to not only close, but disable, the oil refinery plant in Northland.

There was no plan with how the country would transition from using those locally supplied products, to no longer having those products available.

This set NZ on a trajectory that is very concerning. This Herald story speaks to a newly formed industry group asking the government for a co-ordinated plan to transition, before very large numbers of job losses occur. This story explains who those industries are and why they will be affected, and how that will flow on for consumers.

Ratepayers and renters across the country will get caught up with these changes.

Methanex closing will not only have a big impact on New Plymouth, many other industries across the country will also be affected.
